GAIL India to Supply 12 LNG Cargoes to GDF ... - LNG World News

GAIL India to Supply 12 LNG Cargoes to GDF Suez by 2014

GAIL (India) Limited and GDF SUEZ have concluded a medium term LNG agreement for the supply of 12 cargoes by GDF SUEZ from 2013 to 2014, representing a total of 0.8 million tons.

This agreement will contribute to supply the Indian gas market, which is expected to grow from 58 billion cubic meters in 2012 to 110 billion cubic meters in 2020, representing a growth of 87%.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. B C Tripathi, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL (India) Limited said ?This Agreement with GDF SUEZ is yet another step by GAIL to bridge the demand supply deficit of the Indian market in the medium term. This is in addition to other initiatives of GAIL towards LNG sourcing, creating LNG regasification infrastructure and augmenting transmission capacity significantly during the next two to three years. With this step, we look forward to strengthen our partnership with GDF SUEZ in the future. GAIL will continue to make assiduous efforts to tie-up affordable LNG in its portfolio to meet the rapidly growing energy demand of the Indian market.?

Jean-Marie Dauger, Executive Vice President of GDF SUEZ in charge of the Global Gas & LNG business line said ?Signing this LNG supply agreement with GAIL, the largest gas transport and marketing company in India, is a real satisfaction for GDF SUEZ. Our natural gas portfolio is permanently optimized and thanks to its flexibility we are able to direct LNG volumes to the Asian market in response to its increasing LNG demand. Between 2010 and 2016, GDF SUEZ is planning to deliver about 10.8 million tons to Kogas, CNOOC, Petronas, Petronet, PTT and GAIL. These agreements with key Asian energy players show GDF SUEZ strategic commitment to the region?.

Divorced parents in hostile relationships use technology to sabotage communication

ScienceDaily (Aug. 27, 2012) ? Separated and divorced couples are increasingly using emails, texting and social media to communicate with their ex-partners about their children. However, when ex-spouses use that technology to withhold or manipulate information, the children are the ones who suffer most, according to a University of Missouri family studies expert. A new study suggests divorce counselors should teach separated parents effective ways to use communication technology in order to maintain healthy environments for their children.

Lawrence Ganong, a professor of human development and family studies at MU, found that ex-partners who were cooperative with one another used emails and texting to facilitate effective co-parenting, while couples who did not get along used communication technology to avoid confrontations and control their former partners' access to their children.

"Technology makes it easier for divorced couples to get along, and it also makes it easier for them not to get along," said Ganong, who also is a professor of nursing at MU. "Parents who use technology effectively can make co-parenting easier, which places less stress on the children. Parents who use communication technology to manipulate or withhold information from the other parent can cause pain to the child."

Ganong and his colleagues interviewed 49 divorced parents individually about the quality of their relationships with their ex-partners.

Parents who had cooperative relationships saw communication technology (email, texting) as an effective tool to coordinate exchanges of their children, and some even used online calendars to share information about their children's activities. However, separated parents who had hostile relationships used the same technology to manipulate their ex-spouses and limit communication. For example, some parents in the study pretended they never received emails from their former partners. Regardless of how the couples got along, nearly all of the divorced parents used communication technology to maintain household boundaries and establish records of decisions.

When divorces end with some hostility between the parents, Ganong suggests that divorce counselors focus on teaching the couples effective ways to use technology to communicate with one another. Doing so will help children transition more smoothly between the two homes and keep them from being caught in the middle of their parents' conflicts, he said.

"Parents who are hostile need to set their feelings aside and understand that they need to communicate effectively in order to protect the emotional well-being of their children," Ganong said. "Email is a great resource for hostile parents who can't talk face-to-face. They can communicate essential information while editing what they say to avoid conflict. Also, the parents have a record of what was agreed upon."

Ganong is a professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Human Environmental Sciences and also is a professor in the Sinclair School of Nursing.

Taiwan envoy to meet China's Hu at APEC summit

Taiwan's special envoy to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum said Monday he plans to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao for the fifth and last time next month.

Former vice-president Lien Chan will attend the leaders summit in Vladivostok, the eastern port city in Russia, on September 8 and 9, as the special representative of President Ma Ying-jeou.

Hu will be attending the summit for the last time as president before a key leadership reshuffle in Beijing.

Taiwan's leaders are barred from APEC summits due to objections from China, which claims sovereignty over the island, and are represented by senior economic advisers or business leaders instead.

But ties have improved markedly after Ma of the China-friendly Kuomintang party took power in 2008 on a platform of promoting trade and reconciliation with the mainland.

Taiwan has been a major investor in China in recent years, providing more than $100 billion in financing, according to some estimates, as well as crucial technological know-how.

Planning ahead: Consumers prefer fewer options when thinking about the future

ScienceDaily (Aug. 27, 2012) ? Consumers generally prefer having more options when choosing among products but not when making choices involving the distant future, according to a study from Washington University in St. Louis.

"The lure of assortment may not be as universal as previously thought. Consumers' preferences for large assortments can decrease due to a key psychological factor -- psychological distance," write authors Joseph K. Goodman, PhD, and Selin A. Malkoc, PhD, both assistant professors of marketing at Olin Business School.

Retailers have known for decades that consumers prefer large selections and are lured by more options and greater variety. For example, when planning a family outing to an ice cream shop this coming weekend, a consumer would most likely choose the local shop offering 33 flavors over another in the neighborhood offering fewer options.

How universal is this demand for more choice? Are there instances when smaller selections are acceptable or even desirable? The authors find that consumer preference for larger selections decreased for psychologically distant decisions, such as when consumers have to make decisions that are six months away or while on vacation across the country.

They show this change in preference for an array of products and services, namely restaurants, ice cream shops, chocolatiers, home appliances and vacation packages.

"Psychological distance is common concern when consumers are making decisions related to the future such as a vacation, insurance or retirement planning," Malkoc says.

"In such instances, consumers tend to focus on the end goal and less about how to get there and this leads to predictable changes in consumer behavior," she says.

"I'm constantly amazed by the massive amount of choice we have in the marketplace, and it just keeps expanding, making it even more difficult for consumers to make a choice," Goodman says. "I'm very excited about finding instances when consumers might not want so much choice, and can thus avoid some of the difficulty of choosing."

When planning a vacation that is months away, a consumer would probably prefer to hear about fewer dining options in the city they will be visiting than if their vacation was coming up in less than a week.

"In product categories where psychological distance is automatically evoked, it might not be necessary for retailers to offer a large and overwhelming number of options," the authors conclude. "Consumers may even be attracted to those sellers offering a smaller and simpler assortment of options."

Renal denervation treats resistant hypertension in real world patient populations

ScienceDaily (Aug. 27, 2012) ? Renal denervation successfully treats patients with resistant hypertension in real world patient populations, according to a study presented at ESC Congress 2012. The findings were presented by Dr Darren Mylotte from France.

Transcatheter renal denervation represents a novel therapy for treating patients with treatment resistant hypertension, a condition which greatly increases the risk of myocardial infarction and stroke.

"The Symplicity Hypertension I and II studies have suggested that this procedure significantly lowers blood pressure in these patients with few remaining options in terms of treatment," said Dr Mylotte. "However, patients included in clinical trials are often highly selected, and therefore may not reflect the patient encountered by physicians on a day-to-day basis. As such, the results of these trials may not be applicable to less-selected patient populations."

In light of this potential problem, the investigators sought to evaluate the effect of transcatheter renal denervation in a group of patients with resistant hypertension in their own clinical practice at The Institut Cardiovasculaire de Paris Sud, Paris, France.

They intended to perform transcatheter renal denervation on 35 consecutive patients referred to the service with resistant hypertension. The study used the same definition as the Symplicity trials to define resistant hypertension.

Among these patients, 36.5% were female, 36.4% were diabetic, and 15.2% had kidney dysfunction. Baseline office blood pressure (BP) was 181.1?21.9 /100.8?16.8 mmHg, despite an average of 4.6?1.0 medications per patient. Successful bilateral sympathetic denervation was performed in 33 out of 35 patients (1 patient was not treated due to a stenosis of the renal artery; 1 patient had treatment on one side only, as multiple small renal arteries were found on the other side). No procedural complications occurred.

At 6-months follow-up, the average office BP reduction from baseline was 30.3?21.1/14.6?15.3 mmHg (P<0.0001). Similarly, ambulatory BP was reduced 23.3?12.1/10.2?9.9 mmHg from baseline (P<0.001). There were no adverse events during follow-up (death, myocardial infarction, or stroke), and no deterioration in renal function was observed.

"Transcatheter renal denervation is a safe and efficacious treatment, which results in significant reductions in blood pressure in real world patients with treatment resistant hypertension," said Dr Mylotte. "Although longer-term results are required, renal denervation should be considered for all patients with treatment resistant hypertension, as it is likely to lower their blood pressure and reduce their chances of myocardial infarction and stroke."

(AP Photo)

(AP) ? The Syrian civil war has spilled over into Lebanon, bringing with it sectarian street clashes, mob violence and general government paralysis in Beirut.

But it was the dramatic arrest earlier this month of a former Lebanese government minister and prominent supporter of Syria's embattled president that has suggested the conflict may be causing Lebanon to slip further away from Damascus' long domination.

The bloodshed in Syria has drawn Lebanon deeper into the unrest ? a troubling sign for a country that has gone through its own 15-year civil war and has an explosive sectarian mix as well as deep divisions between pro- and anti-Syrian factions, many of which are armed.

The chaos could give Sunni Muslim fighters in northern Lebanon more leeway to establish supply lines to the rebels inside Syria in their battle to oust President Bashar Assad.

Tensions and intermittent fighting in the northern Lebanon city of Tripoli continued Wednesday following two days of clashes between pro- and anti-Assad groups that killed at least six people and wounded more than 70.

In New York, United Nations political chief Jeffrey Feltman told the Security Council Wednesday that as the crisis in Syria continues to deteriorate, "the situation in Lebanon has become more precarious and the need for continued international support to the government and the Lebanese Armed Forces increasingly important."

Feltman said U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has expressed concern about two-way arms smuggling across the Syrian-Lebanese border, which poses risks to both countries and violates a council resolution that ended the month-long war in 2006 between Israel and Hezbollah, which dominates Lebanese politics.

Seventeen times bigger than Lebanon and four times more populous, Syria has long had powerful allies here, including the Iran-backed militant Hezbollah group that now dominates the government. For much of the past 30 years, Lebanese have lived under Syrian military and political domination.

That grip began to slip in 2005, when former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was assassinated in Beirut. Widely accused of involvement? something it has always denied ? Syria was forced to withdraw its troops. But the killings of anti-Syrian figures continued and opponents of Assad's regime say he has maintained his influence through allies who now control the government.

All this made the Aug. 9 arrest of former Information Minister Michel Samaha all the more shocking.

Samaha, one of Syria's most loyal allies in Lebanon who has long acted as an unofficial media adviser to Assad, was plucked from his bed at dawn by special police forces who burst into his summer mountain home. Within hours, various leaks began emerging that Samaha had confessed to having personally transported explosives in his car from Syria to Lebanon with the purpose of killing Lebanese personalities at the behest of Syria.

Two days later, a military court indicted Samaha, along with Syrian Brig. Gen. Ali Mamlouk, of plotting to carry out terrorist attacks inside Lebanon. Mamlouk, who was appointed last month by Assad to head Syria's National Security Bureau, was indicted in absentia on charges he furnished the explosives to Samaha.

According to a senior Lebanese police official, Samaha confessed after he was confronted with audio and video footage taken by a double agent using a camera-equipped pen. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with government regulations.

The case stunned many in Lebanon, where political assassinations have occurred with impunity for decades. While Syria has been blamed for many of the killings, no one has been held accountable.

Syria's allies in Lebanon ? including Hezbollah ? were mostly silent following Samaha's arrest, apparently believing that the evidence against him was solid.

"I think the policy (in Lebanon) has been shifting away from alliance with Syria," said Ayham Kamel, a Middle East analyst at the Eurasia Group in London. "The Syrian regime has been under intense pressure, so its allies in Lebanon have recalibrated."

Syria's opponents in Lebanon cited the Samaha case as proof that Damascus was trying to incite sectarian strife in its neighbor to deflect attention from its own problems, and they called for the Syrian ambassador to be expelled.

In unusually bold comments by a Lebanese head of state, President Michel Suleiman said he expected Assad to explain the situation.

"When any relationship with a foreign entity harms Lebanon, we end it. And when the relationship is again in Lebanon's interest, we reinstate it," Suleiman said in an apparent reference to Syria. His comments were published in the Lebanese media.

Analysts say Suleiman is aiming to be the new face of a more independent Lebanon, taking advantage of a weakened regime in Syria.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who heads a government dominated by Hezbollah and pro-Syrian groups, said he isn't taking sides in the Syria crisis, adopting a policy of "disassociation." Critics say that has led to a general government paralysis in which authorities are afraid to take sides when it comes to Lebanon's feuding pro- and anti-Syrian camps.

Mikati commended the security operation that resulted in Samaha's arrest, saying it saved Lebanon from "major disaster."

"The Syrian regime's allies are shrinking. The Lebanese government, which was 'Made in Syria,' was among the regime's last allies, and they seem to be losing even that," said Hadi Hobeish, an anti-Syrian lawmaker.

Syria accuses Sunni groups in Lebanon of trying to establish a supply line to Syrian rebels across Lebanon's northern frontier, bringing across fighters and weapons.

The Lebanese military has been deployed along the porous border area to try to prevent the smuggling efforts, but if Beirut turns against Damascus, such operations could become easier to carry out.

Even Hezbollah, the Shiite militant group backed by Iran and Syria, has sought to distance itself from the turmoil in Syria. When Shiite clans abducted scores of Syrians in Lebanon last week in retaliation for a kidnapping by Syrian rebels in Damascus, Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said the mayhem was out of the group's control.

Analysts say Assad still has the tools and the allies he needs to stir up trouble in Lebanon.

"I don't think the Syrian regime has fully lost influence in Lebanon," said Kamel, the Eurasia analyst. "But definitely it has less ability and even willingness to intervene on the same level in Lebanese politics," he added.

Hanin Ghaddar, managing editor of the Lebanon opposition website NOWLebanon, said Lebanon is at a significant crossroads in its relationship with Syria.

"Assad's aura in Lebanon is fading," Ghaddar wrote last week.

PFT: Jets bench Hunter at right tackle

Drayton FlorenceAP

Broncos cornerback Drayton Florence has hung around a decade in the NFL by being a smart, steady pro.

Now that he?s closer to the end of his career than the beginning, he?s thinking about looking for them rather than being one.

Florence told Jeff Legwold of the Denver Post he wants to get into personnel when he?s finished playing.

?Just knowing what to look for in a player, I think I have that and would like to see what the opportunities are at some point,? Florence said. ?I?ve been in the league 10 years, I?ve seen all types of different players, body types. You?ve got to get the right type of player to fit the scheme that you?re running.

?It will be an interesting task, I think it would be a good fit for me. A lot of guys really don?t do it, but I?ve been around football all my life. This is what I know. I?m not going to go try to be a chemical engineer when I?m done playing. This is what I?ve been doing. I want to stick to what I know.?

The Broncos are like many teams, whose front offices contain several former players, including director of player personnel Matt Russell, assistant director of college scouting Lenny McGill and area scout Cornell Green.

Florence said he looks at film differently now, thinking how he?d evaluate players as a scout.

?I probably look at it more now from a personnel standpoint when I?m breaking down my opponent. How they put their teams together, what kinds of players that have that fit or don?t fit,? he said. ?In the preseason, especially, I kind of look at the defensive backs, the receivers and I?m always looking at the quarterbacks.?

A lot of players think the way Florence thinks, until they get into it.

The scouting world is a lot more of a grind than many realize, and especially if they?ve made a little money, it proves to be more work than many former players want.

It?s far from necessary to have played to evaluate, but smart bosses put together a blend of perspectives which includes former players, to make sure they get a broad range of opinions.

The pay?s not quite the same as playing, so Florence shouldn?t be in a hurry, but at least he has a plan.

Rare white buffalo in Texas died from infection - | News for Yuma ...

DALLAS (AP) - A rare white buffalo found dead in Texas died from a bacterial infection and wasn't killed and mutilated, as its owner suspected, authorities said Tuesday.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said a veterinarian made the determination and that photographs indicate the calf wasn't skinned. He said the investigation is closed unless new evidence surfaces.

The calf, named Lightning Medicine Cloud, died in May on the Lakota Ranch near Greenville, about 50 miles northeast of Dallas.

Ranch owner Arby Little Soldier reported finding the calf skinned and believed it had been killed as part of a hate crime. He didn't return a message seeking comment Tuesday. Meeks said Little Soldier had not been notified about the results of the investigation as of Tuesday afternoon.

As a non-albino white buffalo, the calf was revered by Native Americans. According to Lakota Sioux lore, the goddess of peace once appeared in the form of a white buffalo calf. The buffalo's death sparked international attention, Little Soldier has said, and one Oregon organization planned to donate a white buffalo bull from its herd.

Meeks said the sheriff's office was not notified of Lightning Medicine Cloud's death until six days after the animal died. It had been buried for three days because Little Soldier "wanted to talk to his elders before he contacted us," Meeks said.

Meeks said the investigation revealed two more buffalo have died at the Lakota Ranch since May. He said investigators believe blackleg, a bacterial infection, was responsible for all of the deaths.

"It lays dormant in the land," Meeks said of the spores that cause the infection. "It's very preventable by vaccination. We were not told by the Little Soldiers that these two had died."

Terry Hensley, a Texas A&M extension office veterinarian, said a blackleg vaccine is available for cattle but has not been approved for buffalo. Some experts say the cattle vaccine has been effective in buffalo, Hensley said.

Animals eat the spores, or the spores enter the body through a wound. The spores, a small number of which are usually found in an animal's digestive tract, can lay dormant inside the animal's muscles, and break out months or years later. The bacteria become activated by quick growth or muscle exertion.

"Normally they're healthy one day and the rancher finds them dead the next," Hensley said.

Lightning Medicine Cloud's mother Buffalo Woman was found dead a day after the white buffalo's death. Little Soldier has said he believes she was poisoned. Meeks said he could not comment on the mother's death.

Little Soldier had offered a $45,000 reward for information about the animal's death.

Meeks said no charges will be filed against Little Soldier.

Day of mourning in S. Africa after mine shooting

MARIKANA, South Africa (AP) ? Grieving families are mourning at memorial services for 34 striking miners killed by police, as the nation in shock asks who gave the orders and who must be blamed.

Memorial services are being held across the country for South Africans to honor all those killed violently in a country with one of the world's highest murder and rape rates.

More than 1,000 people attended the memorial service in Marikana arranged by the government.

The relative of a miner killed in last week's shootings said he wants to see some arrests.

"If it were me I'd want everyone who was involved in this incident including the mine managers to be arrested, the whole lot of them, because a person's life is not worth money," Ubuntu Akumelisine told the AP.

Mungiswa Mphumza, the sister of a dead miner from Eastern Cape, said she was at peace.

"We have accepted everything that has happened and we ask that the dead rest in peace, there is nothing that we can do at the moment, what has happened has happened. God takes what he likes," Mphumza said.

President Jacob Zuma called on the nation to commemorate not only the miners but all victims of South Africa's violence.

Thirty-four miners were killed last Thursday when police opened fire on charging strikers. Another 10 people, including miners and police officers, died in the days before.

The day should be an opportunity for the nation to "mourn and promote a violence-free society," said Zuma in a statement. The president did not attend any of the memorials.

Zuma on Wednesday night demanded that mine companies provide decent homes and sanitation for miners. He singled out one mining house where 666 workers share four toilets and four showers, according to the Star newspaper. He did not name the company.

Zuma warned that those who do not comply with the Mining Charter requiring adequate housing risk losing their licenses.

The president said it was not a time for pointing fingers in last week's shooting deaths.

"I won't judge the incident. The judicial commission of inquiry will do so," he said at a lecture in North West Province, home to the country's troubled platinum mines.

Expelled African National Congress Youth League leader Julius Malema, a fierce critic of the Zuma administration, attended the memorial.

Earlier this week, Malema joined miners as they went to file a criminal case of murder against the police for the shootings.

Other memorial services are held around the country, including a service arranged by the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, one of the unions included in the dispute.

CDC: West Nile outbreak 'one of largest' in US

ATLANTA (AP) ? U.S. health officials reported Wednesday three times the usual number of West Nile cases for this time of year and one expert called it "one of the largest" outbreaks since the virus appeared in this country in 1999.

So far, 1,118 illnesses have been reported, about half of them in Texas, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In an average year, fewer than 300 cases are reported by mid-August. There have also been 41 deaths this year.

"We're in the midst of one of the largest West Nile outbreaks ever seen in the United States," said Dr. Lyle Petersen, a CDC official.

Never before have so many illnesses been reported this early, said Petersen, who oversees the CDC's mosquito-borne illness programs.

Most infections are usually reported in August and September, so it's too early to say how bad this year will end up, CDC officials said.

They think the mild winter, early spring and very hot summer have fostered breeding of mosquitoes that pick up the virus from birds they bite and then spread it to people.

West Nile virus was first reported in the U.S. in 1999 in New York, and gradually spread across the country over the years. It peaked in 2002 and 2003, when severe illnesses reached nearly 3,000 and deaths surpassed 260. Last year was mild with fewer than 700 cases.

Only about one in five infected people get sick. One in 150 infected people will develop severe symptoms including neck stiffness, disorientation, coma and paralysis.

In recent years, cases have been scattered across the country. Hot spots are usually in southeast Louisiana, central and southern California, and areas around Dallas, Houston, Chicago and Phoenix.

Those areas seem to have a combination of factors that include the right kinds of virus-carrying mosquitoes and birds, along with large numbers of people who can be infected, health officials say.

The best way to prevent West Nile disease is to avoid mosquito bites. Insect repellents, screens on doors and windows and wearing long sleeves and pants are some of the recommended strategies. Also, empty standing water from buckets, kiddie pools and other places to discourage breeding.

Important Self Help Tips That Everyone Should ... - Gifts For Happiness

Decide what you want and take actions toward this goal. There is no point in having dreams of what you want from your life if you?re not prepared to get out there and chase them. Do something about your dreams and you will see them come true.

TIP! None of us can say that we haven?t made mistakes from time to time. One of the biggest mistakes that we often choose to ignore is our choice in foods.

Personal development is incredibly personal. You will need to find ideas and methods of advancing yourself that will work with your unique life. You should do research into the different methods and techniques that are used for personal development. This article will give you some great tips for enhancing your personal development.

A healthy lifestyle is only the beginning of your personal development plan. Facing the challenges of improving your life is easier if you go into it with an open mind and a healthy body. You will feel stronger and have more control over your time and money since you won?t have as many medical expenses. You?ll often find that making one healthy choice leads to another, helping you to continue to improve your healthy lifestyle.

TIP! Sexual capitol is a new trait researchers have just discovered, and they feel it is important to have. This is basically another term for charisma.

Take some risks to be truly happy! It is not uncommon for an individual to avoid the feeling of rejection or failure while at at the same time, leading a life that they feel is confining and unfulfilled. Taking risks shows courage, which is a component that can help you on the path of happiness.

You can learn how to approach tough situations in your life without losing your cool. Learning to relax during stressful situations will allow you to be a more confident person. Take a moment and remember to breathe.

TIP! Read literature that is focused on personal development. These books have changed many people?s lives, and they could do the same for you.

Try to pay attention to your inner beauty and not outer. It doesn?t matter what you look like or the clothes you wear. The person that you are inside will overshadow what you look like in your life. Build your inner character rather than focusing on outside appearance.

Respect your body?s boundaries in pursuit of any goal you might have. While no one can argue the importance of giving 100 percent, you must nonetheless take care of yourself. Your body still needs attention, maintenance and care while you are pursuing an objective. You will not be able to continue improving yourself if you don?t take care of your body.

To change and grow, you must make the choice to change your ways. Change is a highly personal and difficult choice that requires a real commitment.

If you are trying to manage your depression, eat more foods that are high in complex carbohydrates. If you are not getting enough complex carbs, you serotonin levels will be low. Eat more fresh fruit, raw vegetables, whole grains, beans, brown rice and nuts to improve your complex carbohydrate intake.

TIP! Having a better life often happens because of willpower, and keep in mind that the things you wish for others might have an effect on you. You should only want the best to happen for others.

Don?t seek comfort in the shopping mall. Spend your time on more productive and useful pursuits. Clean the house, play an instrument or take up a sport. This will reduce stress, save you money and turn you into a more interesting, well-rounded person.

Rather than bragging to others about all of your accomplishments, instead ask people about theirs. People will appreciate your company more, and you will find new common points of interests between you and your friends.

TIP! Discover what is standing between you and your goals. This is hard to do for a lot of people.

When you are angered by something, take the time to take a breath and count up to ten before you react. Think of something that is calming and take a breath. Calm yourself in order to avoid saying things you will later regret.

The ability to empathize represents an important step in personal development. Doing things for others without expecting a reward, is one way to strengthen character and enhance your spiritual life. When you can balance sacrificing for others with meeting your own needs, you will gain the emotional versatility required to become a better person.

TIP! Create goals that you can accomplish and live the life you love. Figuring out your weaknesses and doing what you can to deal with them will make you a happier, more satisfied person.

Humility is a very important trait to have when working on your personal development. As you acknowledge that you are small and insignificant in this universe, the more that you realize your lack of knowledge. You will make dramatic progress in your self improvement once you accept that you still have a lot to learn and become eager to experience all the new things you can.

Tell other people positive things. Being nice to others will help you learn to be nicer to yourself.

TIP! If you find yourself consistently falling short of self-imposed goals and guidelines, step back and assess the possible problems. Check online and find others whom share similar goals with you and find out what they are doing compared to what you?re doing.

No matter what it is you need, and what you are going to do to get it, there is something that every person on this planet must do in their lifetime. Make the choice to be active in life and avoid being a spectator. Sitting back and watching will make you dull and unhappy.

You do not need to be dealing with unneeded stress. Taking things too seriously in times of trouble results in extra, unnecessary stress. Accept that there will be setbacks on the way to your goals, and focus on finding solutions to these problems rather than giving up.

TIP! Employers put a greater emphasis on your ability to work, than the name of the school that you attended. Some exceptions to this include, large financial institutions.

Look for reading material that inspires you and encourages you to be your best. Some people see it spiritually, whereas others just find it inspirationally. A book functions as a concrete object you can use to find support and useful advice when you need it.

You must understand that a divide exists between where you currently are, and the place you would like to go. This is the beginning to starting a journey to a better you. If you can?t understand this, you won?t succeed in achieving the highest potential development for yourself.

TIP! Self discipline will benefit your personal development journey. Your body yearns to give into temptations, but you can control the desires with practice.

Someone might have told you that listening skills are just as essential as speaking skills. Listening definitely holds true for developing yourself. Don?t just listen to other people. Listen to yourself. If you don?t listen to your situation, you will ignore signs that you need to make changes, which impedes personal development.

Consider talking with a counselor or a religious figurehead as it can achieve wonders. These professionals are equipped to discuss very deep, emotional issues and often have many years of experience. They are prepared to listen and give sound advice that you will benefit from. Sharing your issues with such an adviser can result in a greater sense of peace and wisdom.

A good thing to consider when it comes to personal development is, value your important things. Make an effort to have your priorities straight and strive for the best.

Do not give any situation more thought, or attention than it deserves. Before you become stressed, analyze the situation. If you screw up, you can probably fix it, or at least find a way to minimize the damage. Prioritize your achievements over your failures.

Believe that your future can improve over your past. Aim for frequent and continuous improvement. Seek ways to grow beyond the person you were yesterday.

Everyone needs to have an emergency fund. This can help you to avoid always turning to your credit cards every time something unexpected arises. All you will need to do is save a couple of dollars per week. This will be able to get you through a short term crisis like unemployment or a large unexpected health care bill.

You should be humble in your everyday interactions. Use your daily situations to learn about what you can and cannot change about the things in your life. To stay inside the limits of what you can really do, practice modesty. Wisdom can help you make better decisions for your future.

Apply the insights provided to increase the likelihood of it improving your life. You can only succeed if you try. Try and apply the tips you just read and see if you notice any improvement in your personal development

U.S. gov?t sues Florida prisons service for halting kosher food

(JTA) -- The U.S. government has sued the Florida Department of Corrections for ending its kosher meal service.

The Justice Department filed the lawsuit last week in federal District Court in Miami.

The kosher meal service was canceled in 2007. An average of 250 inmates used the kosher meal service, including Muslims, The Associated Press reported. The state now offers vegetarian and vegan options.

A Religious Dietary Study Group had advised the state not to end the kosher meal program, saying that the inmates "may either eat the non-kosher food and fail to obey his religious laws or not eat the non-kosher food and starve," Reuters reported. The expense of providing the kosher meals came to about $146,000 a year, according to the committee.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of 13 current inmates.

Earlier this year, an Israeli judge ruled that an American Jewish man convicted of manslaughter while driving drunk? who fled to Israel more than a decade ago could not be extradited to Florida because he would not receive kosher food while in prison.

Bickering over bona fides in Montana Senate race

HELENA, Mont. (AP) ? Denny Rehberg often wears cowboy boots while campaigning for the U.S. Senate, telling stories about his ranching background and bashing the "death tax" and "Obamacare," characterizations popular with Montana's rural residents.

To Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, the Republican congressman who wants to take his place is all hat and no cattle.

Describing himself as a "dirt farmer," Tester says Rehberg hasn't rounded up his own cattle in years, but has spent his time subdividing and developing what used to be his family's ranch.

"Building houses and mansion ranching is not ranching," Tester said at their first debate this summer.

The razor-tight race may come down to who is "more Montana."

Rehberg's campaign acknowledges that Tester may spend more of his free time farming, but the challenger says the first-term Democrat's support for President Barack Obama's mandate that most everyone buy health insurance runs counter to Montanans' libertarian streak.

Rehberg cites his long roots in ranching prior to leasing out his land due to the demands of his congressional office. He says managing cows is different from farming and requires a full-time presence.

"Frankly I am sorry for the people of Montana that he is wasting so much time as a U.S. senator talking about what a great farmer he is," Rehberg said in an interview. "Maybe he ought to spend a little bit more time trying to help get people back to work and expand the economy because that is what I am focused on. I don't think the people of Montana would particularly want me sitting around the ranch trying to keep the cows in the fence and putting water in front of them and such."

Each candidate lays claim and blame over who's the least elite, most authentic and best able to represent the state's 1 million rural residents in Washington, a city they view with great distrust. Tester's two predecessors lost their populist appeal and re-election bids after becoming too identified with the city's Beltway interests.

The race, one of a few that will determine which party controls the Senate in 2013, is drawing millions of dollars in political money from out-of-state interest groups. Republicans need a net gain of four seats ? three if GOP candidate Mitt Romney wins the presidency, because his vice president could break a tie vote ? to regain control. Eleven weeks from the election, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Virginia and Wisconsin represent their best chances for pickups.

Tester's victory in 2006 helped Senate Democrats take over from Republicans. He won in a squeaker after arguing that three terms in Washington had corrupted incumbent Republican Sen. Conrad Burns, who was embroiled in the Jack Abramoff influence-peddling scandal. It helped that Tester, who has a flattop haircut and is missing a few fingers because of a butchering accident, looks every bit the dryland grain farmer he is, rumpled off-the-rack Sears suits and all.

Now that Tester is the incumbent, he's having to defend himself from attacks that he sold out to banks on debit card swipe fees and, perhaps more harmful, that he is a rubber stamp for Obama administration policies unpopular in Montana.

He is trying to distance himself from Obama by pointing out his opposition to new environmental regulations and proposed farm child labor rules that were considered but abandoned by the Labor Department. Tester also is pushing for the Keystone XL oil pipeline that runs from the Canadian oil fields south through Montana. Obama has postponed a decision on it until after the election.

But Tester wouldn't take back the politically harmful health care vote if he could do the first term over gain. Instead he said he wishes he had done more to stop the intervention in Afghanistan and bring the troops home, pointing to the maimed soldiers he's visited and the billions spent on the war.

Rehberg said he would take back the vote for the Bush administration's post-Sept. 11 program to secure driver's licenses. The Real ID act was intended to help thwart terrorists, but the congressman said that at the time of the vote, he did not know that many in his state would come to despite the program.

Montana State University political scientist David Parker says Republicans "are attacking Tester in ways that would push him away from that image as a Montana farmer: One, he is with Obama. Two, he is a nasty guy. And three, yeah, he makes and eats his own beef, but he votes against Montanans and their interests."

Parker said that Tester's connection to the land is his strongest asset, and he can't have Rehberg seen as a rancher, too, because that would obscure the differences between them.

The Tester campaign argues that Rehberg hasn't bought or sold cattle since at least 2000, citing state livestock inspection records. Some of the attacks deride Rehberg as a multimillionaire land developer.

While Rehberg is the challenger in the race, he has been in statewide politics much longer than Tester and is just as well-known. He was an ardent supporter of conservatives polices as a state legislator in the 1980s. He became lieutenant governor in 1991 and in 1996 he almost defeated veteran Democratic Sen. Max Baucus.

Rehberg isn't ceding the ranching background. He often talks about his family being forced to sell parts of the historic family ranch near Billings in order to pay inheritance taxes ? the derided federal "death tax" ? after his grandmother died in the 1970s. He managed the family ranch for several years before winning the state's lone U.S. House seat in 2000.

In the House, Rehberg carefully has maintained his conservative credentials even while sometimes turning on Republicans, such as when he backed the 2009 expansion of the Children's Health Insurance Program. Last year, he was one of just three other Republicans in the House to oppose Rep. Paul Ryan's budget proposal that would transform Medicare.

Rehberg holds an advantage in the more rural parts of the state, and even expects to carry Choteau County that is home to Tester's Big Sandy farm and about 6,000 people. Those voters largely went for Burns in 2006.

Tester reminds voters why they picked him in the first place. He was first a music teacher and a farmer, then a state legislator and farmer. If he loses the election, he said he will happily return to just farming.

He spent free time in late July and early August harvesting his crops ? or at least those that survived what Tester called one of the worst hail storms to his farm in 35 years. "I take my vacation on the combine and tractor. I am not bitchin' either, I like it that way," he told The Associated Press in an interview.

Gibbs blasts Romney for using ?right-wing nut jobs? like Trump

By David Edwards
Sunday, August 19, 2012 10:45 EDT

?

Senior Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs said on Sunday that he would not be ?lectured? about running a negative campaign while GOP hopeful Mitt Romney continued to use a ?right-wing nut job? like so-called birther Donald Trump.

During an interview on Fox News, host Chris Wallace noted that Romney had been accusing President Barack Obama of waging ?a campaign of division and anger and hate.?

?I?m not going to get lectured by Mitt Romney or anybody on the Romney campaign about the tone of this campaign,? Gibbs explained. ?This is a guy that?s flown all over the country saying he?s not sure whether the president believes in America.?

?[Romney is] auctioning off dinners with birther-in-chief, right-wing nut job Donald Trump, who still questions whether or not the president of the United States was born in America.?

?I?m happy to listen to charges and counter charges,? he added. ?But the notion we?re going to get lectured by Mitt Romney and his campaign about running a positive campaign, that?s a pill far too big to swallow.?

Only a day before appearing at a Las Vegas fundraiser with Romney in May, Trump said ?nothing?s changed my mind? about doubting the president?s citizenship, and suggested the president was ?born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia.?

As recently as last week, the billionaire reality star hinted that he would have a ?wild? role at the Republican National Convention.
