Olympic women?s 1,500m gold medal favourite Mariem Alaoui Selsouli has failed a drugs test and will be banned from the London 2012 Games, according to reports. Mariem Alaoui Selsouli raised question marks after some remarkable times this season (Picture: AP) If confirmed, it would be the Moroccan runner?s second positive doping test ? meaning a lifetime ban from athletics. French newspaper daily L?Equipe reports that a banned diuretic was found in her urine sample taken July 6. Earlier that day, the 28-year-old had recorded the fastest time over 1,500m in six years at a Paris Diamond League meeting, clocking a time of 3min 56.15?sec ? more than four seconds faster than her previous personal best. Selsouli also won the 1500m silver at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul in March, but tested positive for the banned blood booster EPO only 11 months ago. She was the fastest woman in the world this year over 3,000m and was also expected to be a medal contender for the 5,000m in London.
