Training and Development Manager - ASTD
Responsible for improving the productivity of the organization?s employees. Responsible for the effective development, coordination and presentation of training and development programs for all employees. Assess company-wide developmental needs to drive training initiatives. Identify and arrange suitable training solutions for employees. Actively search, creatively design and implement effective methods to educate, enhance performance and recognize performance. Duties and Responsibilities: Develop training programs and coach others involved in training efforts, providing effective growth and development opportunities. May provide and or facilitate with an outside vendor, business skills training to include: PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and other company systems, communication, leadership, customer service, conflict resolution, performance management, etc. Conduct follow-up studies of all completed training to evaluate and measure results; modify programs as needed; develop effective training materials utilizing a variety of media. Utilize training staff, managers and supervisors to systematically review all company jobs. Review will include necessary competencies, training and skills sets. Conduct audits of existing staff to determine current training gaps. Develop employee training programs by position based on competency reviews and gap analysis. Assist with the development of career paths for each employee and or position. Track coarse content, employee coarse registrations, career development, and other employee development activities through a learning management system or (LMS). Responsible for maintaining employee training profiles also referred to as ?training transcripts?. Develop and maintain communications such as bulletin boards, electronic media and newsletters to ensure employees have knowledge of training opportunities. Develop and monitor spending against the departmental budget. Exemplify the desired culture and philosophies of the organization. Work effectively as a team member with other members of management and the Human Resources staff. Develops, writes and coordinates training manuals working with other trainers for specific details. The training manuals should include: course content, visual charts, videotapes, slides, etc. Types initial and/or final drafts of manuals. This position requires initiative, motivation, creativity and ability to understand many areas of expertise. The training area is one of constant change. This position must be able to react positively to these developments and help lead the way forward to include new developments in training targeted to both new and existing employees. Responsible for managing all company training staff which includes: support staff, professional and vocational trainers.

BEIRUT (AP) ? President Bashar Assad's forces killed at least 50 civilians, including 13 children, in central Syria on Friday, activists said, in one of the highest death tolls in one specific area since an internationally-brokered cease-fire went into effect last month.
Syrian troops using tanks, mortars and heavy machine guns pounded the area of Houla, a region made up of several towns and villages in the province of Homs, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees activist groups said.
Both groups said at least 50 people were killed. The Observatory, which has a network of activists around the country, said the dead included 13 children. It added that about 100 people were wounded.
An amateur video posted online by activists showed more than a dozen bodies lined up inside a room. They included about 10 children who were covered with sheets that only showed their bloodied faces.
"Houla was subjected to a massacre," a man could be heard saying inside the room.
The Observatory said in one incident in Houla, a family of six was killed when their home received a direct hit.
Homs has been among the hardest hit provinces in a government crackdown since the uprising against President Bashar Assad's regime began in March last year. The U.N. said several weeks ago that 9,000 people have been killed in Syria in the past 15 months. Hundreds more have died since.
Attacks like Friday's, as well as strikes by rebel forces on government troops, have persisted despite the deployment of more than 250 U.N. observers who have fanned out across Syria to monitor a cease-fire brokered by international envoy Kofi Annan.
Despite the daily violations, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Thursday that there was no "plan B" for the Annan initiative.
The northern city of Aleppo, a major economic hub, has remained largely supportive of Assad throughout the uprising but anti-regime sentiment has been on the rise in recent weeks.
On Friday, Syrian forces fired tear gas and live ammunition to disperse thousands of protesters in Aleppo calling for Assad's ouster, killing five people, activists said.

"The regime is desperately trying to put down the protests in Aleppo but all this violence will backfire," he said. He added that security forces shot dead five people, including a 12-year-old boy, identified as Amir Barakat.
"Wounded and bloodied people are in the streets," Saeed said.
Also Friday, a group of Lebanese Shiites who were kidnapped in Syria were released in good health, three days after gunmen abducted the men as they returned from a religious pilgrimage.
The kidnappings fueled fears that Lebanon is getting drawn into the bloody conflict in neighboring Syria. In the hours after Tuesday's abductions, protests erupted in Beirut's Shiite-dominated southern suburbs, where residents burned tires and blocked roads.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati confirmed the men were released, saying they were "in good health and on their way to Beirut." The pilgrims were believed to have been returning from a trip to visit holy sites in Iran when they were abducted.
The hostages were believed to be 11 Lebanese and one Syrian driver. Lebanese and Syrian officials have blamed Syrian rebels for the kidnappings, but nobody has claimed responsibility.
Sunnis form the backbone of the Syrian revolt, which has unleashed seething sectarian tensions. Assad and the country's ruling elite belong to the tiny Alawite sect, which is an offshoot of Shiism.
The leader of Lebanon's powerful Shiite militant group Hezbollah, which has stood by the Syrian regime, welcomed the pilgrims' release. Speaking by satellite link, Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said the group's support for Syria is firm.
"If you aim to put pressure on our political stance, this will not make any difference," he said of the kidnappings.
The abductions came at a time of deep tension in Lebanon over Syria. The countries share a web of political and sectarian ties and rivalries, which can quickly turn violent. Clashes linked to the Syria conflict have killed at least 10 people in Lebanon the past two weeks.
Nasrallah's comments appeared to be an attempt to de-escalate the recent tensions.
"I also thank all the people who controlled their emotions and responded to our call for calm, wisdom and patience," Nasrallah said, referring to a speech he gave earlier this week calling on his supporters not to take to the streets in anger.

Indians top Verlander, sweep Tigers

CLEVELAND (AP) - After the final out, closer Chris Perez let out a primal scream and punched the air in celebration.
The Cleveland Indians, overlooked and underappreciated - even by many of their own skeptical fans - had swept three straight from the Detroit Tigers and their high-priced lineup.
Maybe the AL Central will be a race after all.
Unless the Indians run away with it.
Justin Masterson matched Justin Verlander pitch for pitch for first his career win over Detroit, and the first-place Indians did just enough to beat the reigning AL MVP 2-1 Thursday and complete a three-game sweep of the underperforming Tigers.
Shin-Soo Choo homered on the third pitch from Verlander (5-2) as the Indians won for the eighth time in 10 games and opened a six-game lead over third-place Detroit.
"This is huge for the team," said Perez, who saved all three games in the series after putting pressure on himself by ripping Cleveland fans for not supporting their team. "We played good ball these last three games. I said when I made the comments that I was just going to go out and do the job. Luckily, I've been able to come through."
Meanwhile, the Tigers have dropped six of eight, and manager Jim Leyland wasn't around to see the final four innings after being ejected.
Detroit stranded 30 runners in the series and went just 3 of 28 (.107) with runners in scoring position. Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Delmon Young, the Tigers' 3-4-5 hitters, went a combined 0 for 12 with runners at second or third.
"We're not scoring," Leyland said. "We're not swinging. That pretty much sums it up. I don't know what else to tell you. I'd love to have something juicy for you, but I don't."
The Indians faded down the stretch last season, when injuries - and the Tigers - overwhelmed them. Detroit won the final 10 meetings between the clubs, but Cleveland has taken the first three of 18 against their division rivals, giving more legitimacy to another surprising start.
Although they may not be getting much national respect, the Indians have the Tigers' attention and Perez believes others will begin giving Cleveland its due.
"We don't have the star power," Perez said. "You look over there and they've got Cabrera and Fielder and Verlander and Valverde. That doesn't win baseball games. Good teams win baseball games."
Jose Lopez hit an RBI single in the fourth off Verlander, and as they've been doing for weeks, the Indians played solid defense, got timely hits and moved eight games over .500 for the first time this season.
Masterson (2-3) entered 0-4 in seven starts against the Tigers, but the right-hander allowed one run and five hits in seven innings to outduel Masterson. After his starter put two runners on in the seventh, manager Manny Acta headed to the mound to talk to Masterson, who believed his day was over.
"I was like, `Oh, no, please,"' Masterson said.
But Acta just wanted to know if Masterson had the stamina and a sinker to get Cabrera and Fielder.
"I told him, `Let's do this,"' said Masterson, who got Cabrera on a fly to center and the stabbed a hard shot through the middle from Fielder before throwing to first for the final out.
"He's our horse," Acta said of the 6-foot-6 Masterson, who has struggled this season after being Cleveland's most consistent starter in 2011. "He's got to get through that."
Masterson was able to slow down Verlander, who has owned the Indians. He won all three starts against Cleveland last season, and came in 9-1 against them in his previous 12 starts. The right-hander gave up two runs, six hits, walked one threw a 102 mph fastball on his 116th pitch as if to remind the Indians that they'll see him again.
"I wasn't trying to send a message," Verlander said. "I was trying to light a spark. I thought if I could dominate an inning and get our guys back in quick, maybe something would happen."
Frustration has been building for the Tigers, who signed Fielder to a nine-year, $214 million free agent contract in the off-season and were expected to dominate.
"You can only say it's early for so long," Verlander said. "We've got to get it turned around. It's disappointing the way we've been playing. Obviously, we all expected better."
Choo quickly ended any suspense whether Verlander would repeat his flirtation, crushing the right-hander's third pitch into the second deck in right - a 454-foot shot. Choo is batting .350 (14 of 40) in 10 games since moving into the leadoff spot.
NOTES: Verlander has pitched at least six innings in 52 straight starts. It's the longest streak in the majors since Steve Carlton did it for 69 consecutive starts from Sept. 13, 1979 to April 13, 1982. ...
